I spent 3 summers at sea documenting the rough denizens of South East Alaska on a friends sail boat, "The Devil's Club".
I was inspired by the daunting scale of the environment, the sense of isolation and the raw beauty tinged with danger, a theme that runs through all of my subjects of study.
This particular painting was inspired by a story I was told by a commercial fisherman in a bar in Sitka Alaska.
He hated the Coast Guard and staged this prank of throwing an inflatable sex doll overboard and calling out a sea and rescue "May Day" over his VHF radio.
