Jonathan McAfee
Collection

"In my capacity as a painter based in Evergreen, Colorado, I specialize in the human form and the expressive potential of paint. The core of my work is founded on the creation of movement and energy through thick, gestural brushstrokes. Beyond delving into the psychological aspects of portraiture, my paintings often explore themes of identity, memory, and emotion.
In the pursuit of my craft, I draw inspiration from a diverse array of artists, such as Francis Bacon, Willem de Kooning, and Lucian Freud, whose exceptional abilities in capturing the human condition in a raw and visceral way have greatly influenced my approach. Additionally, I frequently incorporate elements of the natural world, especially landscapes, into my paintings.
My objective as an artist is to capture and immortalize the unique narratives of individuals through portraiture. I firmly believe that every person has a story to share, and I strive to pay homage to their experiences by producing tangible memories. It is my sincere aspiration that my art will resonate profoundly with those who encounter it, forging deep connections and evoking powerful emotions."
