Jorick
Born in Douala, Cameroon, and based in Canada, I am a surreal visual artist exploring how culture, identity, and memory are quietly inherited. The values that shaped me were rarely taught through words but absorbed through gestures, family rituals, stories, and everyday objects. My work invites viewers to reflect on the quiet inheritance carried within their own lives, the habits, rituals, objects, and moments that continue to shape them long after childhood. Though rooted in my Cameroonian upbringing, these works speak to a universal experience: that the deepest parts of our identity are often transmitted not through words, but through the lives we witness and the moments we share.

From 2010 to 2014, I received formal drawing training through Le Crayon de D’Jino, a national art program organized by Les Brasseries du Cameroun in Douala. I further developed my practice through mentorship and independent study alongside Cameroonian professional artists, including Boris Anje Tabufor. This combination of structured training and self-directed exploration continues to shape my artistic approach today.

I participated in several art events and residencies in Cameroon, including FESCARHY (Festival de la Caricature et de l’Humour de Yaoundé) in 2009. I was also selected for Le Camp Artistique, a three-month artist residency in Yaoundé organized by École Pivaut de Nantes, held in 2009 and 2012 at Nkoabang Lada I. During this residency, I received professional training in comic strip creation and live portrait drawing. From 2010 to 2014, my work was exhibited annually as part of Le Crayon de Djino, a national art program featuring recurring exhibitions across Cameroon.

I took part in a portrait-focused chalk art show during an artist residency in Yaoundé, Cameroon, known as Le Camp Artistique, organized by École Pivaut de Nantes in Nkoabang Lada I, Yaoundé, in 2009 and 2012. From 2010 to 2014, I participated in annual art shows organized by Les Brasseries du Cameroun in Douala. Most recently, in August 2025 , I exhibited at SWISSARTEXPO in Switzerland, participating in an international group exhibition
